Wisl is a small independent business in Sheffield. There are four of us. We make cola. We're not a multinational, we have no investors, and we have no marketing department.

What we actually mean by ethical

Fair question, and one we should have answered here sooner.

The soft drinks industry is controlled by a handful of enormous corporations. They spend more on advertising in a day than the four of us will spend in our lifetime, and they use that spend — along with exclusivity deals and sheer buying power — to push smaller producers off shelves and out of bars, cafes and fridges. Independent venues get squeezed. Independent producers never get a look in. And the money leaves the place it was made.

We exist as the alternative to that. In practice:

• Made in the UK, from UK suppliers

• We supply independent venues, and we do not tie anyone into exclusivity contracts

• Money spent on Wisl stays with a four-person business in South Yorkshire

• We would rather stay small and independent than take money that would change what we are
